After much deliberation, your group of friends booked a trip to Thailand. Or Australia. Or a roundtrip flight over to Europe to backpack. Now, it’s a matter of counting down the days until the trip. Here are some of the best group travel tips to make sure you’re keeping your sanity (and making the most out of your trip).
Do’s and Don’ts on Group Travel
DO split the responsibilities among you guys.
DON’T make someone the only one in charge of everything. That puts a lot of pressure on them (unless they enjoy it), but it’s a lot easier to play to someone’s strengths. It’s not fun when everyone depends on one person to know and plan everything.
The important part… you went as a group for a reason right? If you wanted to make it a solo trip, you could have! But half the fun is coming together to enjoy a new destination.
DO have a conversation before you guys go.
DON’T forget that people have different ways of traveling. Are you a budget traveler? More into paying for convenience? Well, that’s gonna make it hard for people to agree on things. What’s your travel style?
The important part... think about whether or not you and your travel buddies will get along. Some friends aren’t friends to travel with, some are. Some friends I’m okay with eating large pints of ice cream and some friends are better as my workout buddy.
DO speak up. Voice your thoughts on your trip.
DON’T hide your feelings. It’s a lot easier to be upfront and be clear when you communicate.
The important part… is you’re trying to have a good time. Simmering the entire trip is going to make you a) regret it and b) salty toward your friends
DO make suggestions on what to do. Research a few of your own must-see things on your trip.
DON’T be selfish. Everyone’s gonna want to do their own thing at some point
The important part… Veer off on your own. If there’s some event, concert, museum, restaurant you want to try, GO! Part of group travel is knowing when to break away from the group and do your own thing when you need to.
